We were one of the finalists for the EU Sustainable Energy Week Awards in 2018.
See the video they made about EKOenergy and one of our campaigns:

EKOenergy – Finnish Association for Nature Conservation

#EKOenergy is a nonprofit ecolabel for renewable energy, and it is available in 30+ countries. The ecolabel was launched to help consumers purchase the most sustainable renewable energy that has minimum impact on ecosystems and biodiversity. The ecolabel is supported a network of 45 NGO members from 35 countries. We launched the label in 2013 in Europe and have gradually broadened our reach.

The secretariat of EKOenergy is hosted by the Finnish Assocation for Nature Conservation, in Helsinki. At the EKOenergy Secretariat, there are 4 employees and an average of 5 volunteers and trainees.

The ecolabel brings biodiversity issues to the table, and provides energy consumers with a tool for sustainability communication.

We are looking for long term volunteers / trainees for a minimum of 6 months. Most of our volunteers stay for a year.

  • Contacts with electricity companies, large consumers and relevant stakeholders in various countries (via e-mail, Skype and telephone)
  • Sharing information about international standards, energy tracking
  • Communication about renewable energy/electricity (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,…)
  • Writing texts to reach out to companies and promote the ecolabel
  • Layout of publications
  • Setting up activities (depending on the personal interest of the volunteer)

We Offer

  • The opportunity to learn about electricity markets
  • A position in a young, dynamic and international team
  • A lot of freedom to develop own ideas and sub-projects (within the EKOenergy framework). The focus can be on energy production, supply, biodiversity or on marketing.
  • Contacts with stakeholders in the environmental and electricity sector, both in Finland and abroad
  • A (limited) possibility to participate to other activities of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (Limited because most other activities require knowledge of the Finnish language)

If the volunteer qualifies for EVS (European Voluntary Service) / European Solidarity Corps or Erasmus+ traineeship, we also offer:

  • Everything which is expected from an EVS hosting organization: Financial support for travel, local transport, accommodation and pocket money. Also support and guidance.
